Google’s influence over Motorola shines through in new bootloader unlocking website

Motorola Bootloader Unlock Tool

Last April, Motorola promised that it would begin unlocking future bootloaders on smartphones and tablets with carrier approval. Since then, however, little progress has been made and the company has continued to release secure devices while teasing its upcoming bootloader unlocking tool. On Friday, Motorola finally launched a new website that allows users to unlock the bootloaders of select smartphones — and while this is great news, it looks like the DROID 3, DROID 4, DROID RAZR and RAZR MAXX are not supported. One can’t help but wonder if Motorola’s decision to finally launch its bootloader unlocking tool is the result of Google’s (GOOG) recent acquisition and its attempt to restructure the company.
