If you find that you’re often having trouble when it comes to focusing on your writing, then the iAWriter program and app could really be the best solution on the market right now. Focused on getting you to get your words down on the page, rather than distract yourself with endless formatting and making things look “nice,” iAWriter allows you to sit in front of a white screen and fill it up as you go, with some pretty great sharing and focus features to hand.
As far as sharing goes, this is one of the best benefits of having iAWriter – it can sync through both Dropbox and iCloud, which means that you can write half an article on your iPad, then switch over to your Macbook and finish it off, with little to no break in between, because Dropbox only has to sync a plain-text file, which means it’s not got a lot of data to deal with! Ideal if you need your connection reasonably soon for streaming movies or playing Partypoker, we’d say.
It’s also got a feature called Focus Mode, which is hands-down the best writing software feature we’ve ever seen. Every other sentence in the document becomes grey rather than black, except for the one you’re currently working on. Sentence by sentence, beat by beat. It’s great for seeing the progress you’re making while focusing on moving forward, as the grey tends to remove the temptation to go back and start fiddling with what you’ve already written.
This is the big thing about writing – you have to keep moving. If you’re constantly going back and changing things, you’ll end up with one really amazing page, and no more pages after that. However, if you write and write and write, you’ll have a hundred pages that you can then go back and edit to your heart’s content, because the bulk of the writing work is done. Go grab iAWriter – you won’t regret it.
